Pune Crime Branch Arrests Drug Trafficker Mephedrone Worth Rs 1.69 Lakh

Pune, 21st January 2024: The Anti-Narcotics Squad of the Pune Crime Branch successfully apprehended a drug trafficker in the Pune Station area. The arrested individual, identified as Shahbaz Shabbir Qureshi (24 years old, residing in Camp), was found in possession of eight grams of Mephedrone, with an estimated street value of Rs 1.69 lakh.

 

The action unfolded when Police Inspector Anita Hivarkar, leading the Crime Branch Anti-Narcotics Squad Two, received information about a person residing in the Pune Station area carrying Mephedrone. The team promptly organized a patrol, and upon receiving confirmation of the suspect’s location, a trap was set.

 

Qureshi was detained by the police team, and a thorough search revealed the illegal substance in his possession. The seized eight grams of Mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant, were estimated to be worth Rs 1.69 lakh in the illegal drug market. Subsequently, a case has been registered against Qureshi at the Bundgarden Police Station.

 

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende and ACP Satish Govekar, showcasing the Crime Branch’s commitment to curbing drug-related activities in Pune. The team involved in the operation included Sub-Inspector Digambar Chavan, Chetan Gaikwad, Sandeep Jadhav, Ravindra Rokade, and Mahesh Salunke.
