Pune: Crime Branch Arrests Main Accused In Opium Smuggling Case

Pune, 20th July 2022: Crime Branch Unit 1 has arrested a man in connection with opium smuggling in Pune city. Earlier, the team had arrested his accomplice and seized opium worth Rs eight lakhs.

The name of the arrested person is Umed Kanaram Dewasi (28), a resident of Kalepadal, Hadapsar, who is a native of Pachva-Khurd, Tal. Sojat, District Pali, Rajasthan.

Raju Pratamram Gurjar (22), a resident of Rajasthan was detained by Unit 1 at Hirabag Chowk on Tilak Road for possession of opium. After interrogating the youth and asking about the buyer, his accomplice and other things, Raju informed the team about his main accomplice; Umaid Dewasi.

The action was taken by a team under the guidance of DCP (Crime) Shrinivas Ghadge, ACP Gajanan Tompe and Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Bhosale. The team included Sub-Inspector Sanjay Gaikwad, Sub-Inspector Sunil Kulkarni, Ajay Jadhav and police personnel Mahesh Bamgude, Ayyaz Daddikar, Nilesh Sable, Shubham Desai, Amol Pawar and Imran Shaikh. Police sub-inspector Sunil Kulkarni is investigating the case further.
