Pune: Crime Branch Arrests Serial Impersonator For Demanding Rs 20 Lakh From Former BJP Corporator

Pune, 8th April 2023: The Crime Branch has arrested a criminal on police record for calling former corporator of the Bharatiya Janata Party from Pune cantonment and demanding Rs 20 lakh to ‘settle’ his case. He had pretended to be a senior police officer to demand the extortion from the victim.

The accused had previously committed more than twenty crimes where he posed as a political leader, doctor or police officer to demand extortion.

The arrested accused Amit Jaganath Kamble (35) had contacted the mobile number of the complainant a few months back and pretended to be an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Mumbai Police. The victim filed a complaint at Lashkar police station, and the case was being investigated by Unit Two of the Crime Branch.

Acting on a tip-off received by police personnel Mohsin Shaikh and Pushpendra Chavan, Kamble was nabbed today from the Rajiv Gandhi road behind Sassoon Hospital.

The action was taken under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende, Assistant Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Senior Police Inspector Kranti Kumar Patil. The team included Assistant Police Inspector Vishal Mohite and Sanjay Jadhav, Mohsin Shaikh, Nikhil Jadhav, Pushpendra Chavan, Uttam Taru, Vinod Chavan, Vijay Pawar, and Nagnath Rakh.
