Pune Crime Branch Arrests Two Youths, Seizes Illegal Firearms in Katraj Ghat

Pune, 17th June 2025: The Crime Branch of Pune Police has arrested two youths — one of them a known criminal — and detained a minor for possession of illegal firearms. Stolen goods and weapons worth approximately ₹3 lakh were seized from the trio.

The operation was led by police officers Krishna Mhaske and Saurabh Salve, whose alertness during patrol led to the arrests.

According to police, on the evening of June 15 around 6 pm, cops from Unit 2 of the Crime Branch were patrolling the area near Lakshmi Garage in Katraj Ghat when they spotted three youths loitering suspiciously with a two-wheeler. Upon being approached, the youths panicked and attempted to flee, raising further suspicion. They were quickly apprehended.

Upon frisking, the police found bulges around their waists. A search led to the recovery of three country-made pistols (desi kattas) with magazines, two additional magazines, nine live cartridges, three mobile phones, and the two-wheeler.

The arrested accused have been identified as:
Aniket Sanjay Malpote (22), resident of Sutardara, Dattanagar, Kothrud
Nikhil Mukesh Tusam (19), resident of Kelewadi, Kothrud
A minor, who has been taken into custody.
A case has been registered against them at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station.

The operation was executed under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pankaj Deshmukh and DCP Nikhil Pingle, by a team comprising PI Pratap Mankar (Unit 2), Sr PI Savalaram Salgaonkar (Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station), and PI Rahul Kumar Khilare.
The court has remanded the adult accused to police custody till June 20.
