Pune Crime Branch PSI Sanjay Gaikwad nominated for President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service

Pune, August 15, 2020: Police Sub Inspector Sanjay Gaikwad of Pune City Police Crime Branch will get the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. His name is among the list of awardees announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

PSI Gaikwad is known for his crime detection work. He played an important role in the government formed SIT for investigation of biggest bogus stamp scam and arrest of accused Abdulkarim Telgi and others. A murder case was investigated by him in which accused Sandesh Abhang awarded death sentenced. His skillful interrogation has led to the disclosure of 120 theft cases with recovery worth Rs 1.5 crores.

He has detected four narcotics cases which led to recovery worth Rs 88.78 lakh and arrest of nine accused. In one case, the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) was also applied. He has collected sufficient evidence against 41 accused persons including notorious goons Sharad Mohol, Navnath Lodha and others from different gangs which are involved in extortion, dacoity and body offences. PSI Gaikwad also arrested five accused in Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act cases. In 2019 he detected 24 house break-in and vehicles theft cases and recovered valuables worth of Rs 23.31 lakh.

In his career, PSI Gaikwad has earned 487 rewards for excellent detections in property and body offence cases.
