Pune: Criminal Caught Taking Rs 30 Lakh Extortion From Doctor After Blackmailing With Fake Abortion Case

Pune, 13th April 2022: The officials from Loni Kalbhor Police Station, Pune city police, have arrested a criminal on police record for allegedly demanding Rs 30 lakh extortion money from a man and his doctor friend alleging they were involved in illegal abortions.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mangesh Manik Kanchan (35), a resident of Pandharsthal in Urulikanchan, who has 12 cases registered against him including related to murder, extortion, kidnapping, rape etc.
According to police, Kanchan told the complainant that he has a video clip of illegal abortions being performed. He threatened to implicate them in a false case and demanded Rs 30 lakh for not doing so. Yesterday, he called them home to give the amount.
Meanwhile, the complainant approached the police. Accordingly, a trap was laid and Kanchan was caught red-handed while accepting the extortion money at his house. A judicial magistrate court has remanded him to five days of police custody.
The action was taken under the guidance of DCP (Zone 5) Namrata Patil, ACP (Hadapsar division) Bajrang Desai and Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi. The team included PSI Amit Gore and Kiran Dhayagude.
