Pune: Crowds And Tourists In Lonavala Cause Traffic Jams At Borghat

Pune, 24th December 2022: At Borghat on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, traffic was disrupted due to long queues of vehicles. Due to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, many tourists have left their homes. Due to the increased number of vehicles on the expressway and the ongoing road works in Borghat, motorists have had to face traffic jams since Friday night.

Due to the increase in the number of tourists, five to six kilometres long queues of vehicles were formed on Pune Lane between Borghat Police Chowki Dasturi, Amrutanjan Bridge and Khandala Tunnel and between Khandala Exit and New Amrutanjan Bridge on the Mumbai side.

On Saturday, traffic halted for around two hours, making travellers and drivers suffer. Khandala and Lonavala saw vehicle lines formed on the highway as well. The Borghat, Khandala highway police are working to maintain traffic flow. The traffic police of Borghat (Dasturi), Khandala, came in handy while smoothing the traffic. In the meantime, the traffic was diverted by the police to an alternate route to the opposite Mumbai side.

Due to the consecutive Christmas holidays, Lonavala and Khandala are packed with tourists. Chikki shops in the city were crowded with tourists. Darshan of Karla, Bhaje Leni, and Mother Ekvira Devi attracted devotees. Tourists prefer to visit Rajmachi Park, Lions Point, and Narayani Dham.

A meeting with the hotel, bungalow, camping, and tent businessmen was held under the direction of the Lonavala Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Assistant Superintendent of Police Satyasai Karthik. The Superintendent gave them strict instructions and rules.

Visitors are asked to take care they do not disturb others while coming to the tourist spots. Those who break the peace in public places, driving under the influence of alcohol, or use loudspeakers have been warned with strict action. Checkposts will be set up in urban and rural areas to check vehicles.
