Pune, 10th April 2023: The Civil Registration System (CRS) used by the central government to register births and deaths has been reactivated by the state government from today (10th April) morning. Due to this, the work of birth and death registration, which has been stalled for the last five to six days, has resumed.

The CRS system, which is used to register births and deaths, was not functioning properly since 1st April due to technical problems. As a result, work was undertaken to repair the system on 5th April.

At that time, all the local self-government bodies were ordered to stop the registration of births and deaths until the system was operationalized by the state government. Therefore, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) stopped this work on the 5th of April.

Meanwhile, this morning it was said that the system has been implemented again by the government. Therefore, citizens will now be able to apply for birth and death certificates at the civic facility centre.

Deputy Health Chief Dr Kalpana Baliwant said, “When a birth-death incident occurs, it is necessary to send the information of the incident to the Municipal Corporation within 21 days from the concerned hospital. After that, there is a provision in the law to impose a penalty of Rs 15 per day on the concerned hospital for each incident.”

“Therefore, if the citizen fills the application for birth and death certificate at the civic facility centre within ten days after the incident, the Municipal Corporation will register and issue the certificate in CRS in just two days,” Baliwant added further.
