Pune: Demand Of Farmers’ Association To Repair Dams After Water In River Bed Is Exhausted
Talegaon Dhamdhere, 10th April 2023: Kolhapur dams in the Bhima river bed will be repaired through Irrigation Department, Kolhapur dams at Vadhu, Perne, Burkegaon, Sangvi Sandas will be repaired after 15th April 2023. These dams will be emptied to carry out the said repair works. Water will be kept only along the riverbed.
The branch officer of Kondhapuri Irrigation Branch in Shikrapur RM Aher through a letter told the sarpanch and gram sevak of the Gram Panchayat of the concerned village to inform the farmers on both banks of the Bhima river and appeal to them to use the water properly.
Meanwhile, in this regard, President of Shirur Taluka Farmers’ Association Rajendra Dhamdere has informed through a statement to Aher that there is a severe water shortage in summer, hence, the dam should be repaired after the water in the river bed is exhausted and the planning of water storage and consumption should be carried out accordingly.
The statement by the Farmers’ Association further said that water has been released in the Bhima river basin due to summer. This water is useful for agriculture and drinking. Also, the water schemes of many villages along the river depend on the water from this dam, as well as the private and public irrigation schemes of many farmers. There is an urgent need for water in the river basin for agriculture and drinking.
If this water is left in the riverbed, the dams will dry up and severe water shortage will occur. There is no guarantee when the next water cycle will occur after the dams are repaired. Considering the acute water shortage, the Farmers’ Association has made a strong demand that the dam should be repaired after the water in the river bed is exhausted.
