Pune Cyber Fraud: Warje Police Recover Rs 35,000 Lost in Fake MNG Gas Video Call Scam, Return Money to Bhagyashree Chirmule’s Mother

Pune, 19th July 2026: The Cyber Team of the Warje Malwadi Police Station has successfully recovered ₹35,000 lost in an online fraud and returned the amount to Swati Shirish Chirmule (70), the mother of Marathi film actress Bhagyashree Chirmule.

According to the police, Swati Chirmule, a resident of Karvenagar, received a video call at around 6 pm on June 23, 2026, from a person claiming that her MNG Gas connection bill was overdue. Following the caller’s instructions and completing certain procedures, ₹35,000 was fraudulently transferred from her bank account through an online transaction.

After realizing she had been cheated, Chirmule lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell, which was subsequently transferred to the Warje Malwadi Police Station for investigation.

Under the guidance of the Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi, the station’s Cyber Team conducted a technical analysis, identified and froze the beneficiary bank account, and initiated the necessary legal procedures. Following a court order, the police successfully recovered the entire defrauded amount of ₹35,000 and returned it to the complainant.

On Saturday (July 18), actress Bhagyashree Chirmule and her mother visited the Warje Malwadi Police Station to receive the recovered amount. They expressed their gratitude to the police for their prompt action and assistance.

The recovery operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (West Regional Division) Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Dr. Sagar Kavade, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sujata Tanawade.

The operation was executed by Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi, Cyber Team In-charge Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Narale, and police personnel Ravindra Gade and Shashikant Gohine.
