Pune Cyberfraud: Three Victims Lose Rs 77 Lakh in Stock Market Investment Scam
Pune, 27th December 2024: Three people have been defrauded of Rs 77 lakh under the guise of investment opportunities, with cases registered in Pune Police. These incidents occurred under the jurisdiction of the Khadak, Airport, and Kondhwa Police Stations. Over the past year, cybercriminals have swindled people out of crores of rupees by luring them with promises of stock market investments. On average, two to three cases of fraud related to stock market investments are reported daily at various police stations across the city.
A youth from the Manjari area recently filed a complaint at Khadak Police Station. In October, cybercriminals contacted him via a message, urging him to invest money with promises of good returns. The youth deposited Rs 13.07 lakh into the fraudsters’ accounts over time. Initially, the fraudsters did not attempt to refund the youth, and later, they continued to withhold the money. Realizing he had been cheated, the youth filed a complaint with the police. Police Inspector (Crime) Gaud is investigating the case further.
In a similar scam, a businessman from Lohegaon was defrauded of Rs 47.68 lakh. He filed a complaint with the Airport Police Station, where Police Inspector (Crime) Rajendra Panhale is leading the investigation. Additionally, a resident from Kondhwa was swindled out of Rs 16.84 lakh under the pretext of investment. Kondhwa Police have registered a case against the fraudsters, with Police Inspector (Crime) Suraj Bendre overseeing the investigation.
