Kalyaninagar, 21st January 2025: A cyclist sustained injuries on Monday morning after his bicycle handle became entangled in a loose wire hanging from the Ramwadi underpass on Airport Road. The incident has raised significant concerns among local residents regarding the safety of the city’s infrastructure.

“A member of our cycling group had a serious fall when his handlebar got caught in a wire dangling from the underpass structure. Incidents like this highlight the urgent need for better maintenance of public infrastructure,” said Drayson Dixon, a resident of Kalyaninagar. He emphasized that such negligence could have far more severe consequences in the future.

Residents have pointed out that this is not an isolated issue. “The footpaths in the area are unusable, forcing pedestrians, including parents with young children, to walk dangerously close to moving vehicles. Just a few weeks ago, I saw a wire hanging low in the middle of a road in the bylanes,” another resident added.

Responding to the incident, a senior Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) official confirmed that immediate action had been taken. “The wire at the Ramwadi underpass was cut down as soon as we were informed. It was an Internet cable that had somehow ended up dangling on one side of the road. Residents from Kalyaninagar shared photos of the wire, and our team promptly removed it,” the official stated.

Local residents have urged authorities to implement preventive measures to avoid such hazards in the future and ensure safer infrastructure for commuters and pedestrians alike.
