Pune Cyclist Preeti Maske Sets World Record
Pune, 21st November 2022: Preeti Maske (45) from Pune has set a record by travelling from the western tip of the country to the eastern tip of the country by bicycle to spread the message of organ donation and awareness. Facing adverse weather conditions, bad roads, road repair work, and high peaks, she completed this journey in 15 days and registered her name in the Guinness World Records.
Under this mission, she completed a journey of 3,955 km from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. She used to cycle for an average of 19 hours every day. A team of five people was with her to avoid any trouble.
Preeti holds the World Ultra Cycling Association (WUCA) ‘Guinness World Record’ for becoming the first female ‘solo cyclist’ to cycle from West to East India.
Preeti started cycling five years ago to overcome depression and mental stress. She planned various campaigns. These include the Golden Quadrilateral Mission of more than 6,000 km in March 2021, 430 km from Leh to Manali in 55 hours in June 2022, Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and others.
All documents, proofs, and time stamp pictures required for the record are accepted by WUCA Guinness World Records. As soon as the documents are processed, the certificate will be issued to them.
She travelled through seven states, starting from Gujarat, through Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam, till Arunachal Pradesh. On November 15, she completed the mission at Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh on the Indo-Tibet border at the eastern tip of the country.
“In Arunachal, cycling becomes difficult in the bone-chilling evenings. We didn’t even have enough warm clothes. Due to the lack of roads and a network, travel was also delayed. But overcoming all the difficulties, the campaign was successful. The Border Road Organization also gave a lot of support in this work,” she said.
