Pune, 15th October 2022: Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet and Khadakwasla dams of the Khadakwasla dam chain project, which supply water to Pune city, have received the highest rainfall in the last three years in this season. It was said by the Water Resources Department that there has been enough rain this season to fill all four dams twice.

All four dams are full this year. At present, the total water storage is 29.9 TMC i.e. 99.77 per cent. Sufficient water reserves have been accumulated for drinking in urban areas and for agriculture in rural areas until the next monsoon.

This year, since the monsoon has been active, the rains have turned away for the entire month of June. Also this year the pre-monsoon rains did not make an appearance in the area of the dams. Due to this, the dams supplying water to the city had reached the bottom. Against this backdrop, it was time to cut water in the city of Pune and the implementation of the water-cut decision was also started on July 4. However, after that, there was heavy rain in the catchment area of the dams.

During this season, on July 12, the Khadakwasla dam was filled to its full capacity, and water was released from this dam into the Mutha river. After that, Panshet Dam was 100 per cent full on August 11, Varasgaon Dam on August 13 and Temghar Dam on September 15.

Meanwhile, in 2021 and 2020, all four dams were 100 per cent full till October 14. However, there was relatively less rain in the dams than this season. However, in 2019 and 2018, the Water Resources Department also said that there was more rain in the catchment area of the dams than this season.
