Pune: Dawoodi Bohra Community Bans Mobile Phones For Children Under 15 In Revolutionary Move

Pune, 27th December 2024: In a significant step aimed at curbing excessive mobile phone use among children, the Dawoodi Bohra community has announced a complete ban on mobile phones for children under the age of 15. The decision, described as revolutionary, has been widely welcomed within the community, which is known for its strong values of social awareness and mutual support.
The community’s spiritual leader, Syedna, made the announcement during a recent sermon in Mumbai, emphasizing the harmful effects of prolonged screen time on children’s development. Members of the Dawoodi Bohra community, which spans across numerous countries worldwide, have begun implementing the decision with enthusiasm.
A community representative explained, “Mobile phone usage among children has become a widespread issue. Parents often hand over phones to their kids to stop them from crying or to make them eat. This habit is detrimental to their mental and physical health.” Highlighting the leader’s foresight, the representative added, “Syedna’s decision addresses this growing problem and encourages families to create a healthier environment for their children.”
The initiative also includes efforts to raise awareness about the negative effects of mobile phone use among children. Members of the community are actively spreading this message in various regions, encouraging families to adopt similar measures.
“Whatever decision our religious leader Syedna makes is wholeheartedly accepted by the community,” said another member. “Even the children are gradually adapting to this change. It’s a necessary step, and we urge others to follow suit.”
