Pune: Deccan College Celebrates 12th Convocation On Its 201st Foundation Day, Multiple Students Awarded

Yerwada, 7th October 2022: The 12th Convocation of the Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute (Deemed to be University), Pune, took place on its 201st Foundation Day -Thursday, 6th October 2022.

 

Chandrakant Patil, Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, graced the occasion virtually as the Chief Guest. He mentioned the glorious status of the Institute and told students how lucky they are to be alumni of the Institute. He reminded them of their duty towards society.

 

Jayant Udgaonkar, Director, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. He addressed the students and said that students who have received Post-graduate M.Phil and PhD degrees should contribute to the development of society and the country.

The function was presided over by Dr Bibek Debroy, Chancellor, Deccan College. He said, “India has got a long tradition of a systematic education system. The Taittariya Upanishad explicitly gives the convocation address and student oath. The degree holders may or may not get what they want in life but they should do with love what they get in life. They should always remember the glory of the Institute while doing any good or bad thing. Every deed is going to give credit to them personally and to the Institute as well.”

 

In total, 241 students (15 belonging to MA Linguistics, 140 belonging to MA Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, 20 belonging to MA in Sanskrit and Lexicography, three belonging to M.Phil. in Linguistics, 17 belonging to M.Phil. in Archaeology, one belonging to M.Phil. in Sanskrit and Lexicography, two belonging to PhD in Linguistics, 29 belonging to PhD in AIHC and Archaeology, and 14 belonging to PhD in Sanskrit and Lexicography) were conferred degrees on this very special day. On this occasion, Prof. H.D. Sankalia Gold Medal, Dr Amrit & Sau. Vimala Ghatage Cash Prize of Rs 10,000, Prof. Dinkar Khanderao Deshpande Memorial Cash Prize of Rs 10,000, Dr G.G. Mujumdar Cash prize of Rs 7,500, Smt. Shantabai Dhavalikar Cash Prize of Rs 5,000, Prof. M.S. Mate’s Cash Prize of Rs 2000, Sir Ramkrishna Gopal Bhandarkar Cash prize of Rs 2000, Late Shri. Manohar Vishnu Deshpande Cash prize of Rs 2,000 and many such important prizes were also awarded to the meritorious students who had taken degrees during the academic years 2019-2022. The welcome speech was given by Prof. Pramod Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, and a vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Prasad Joshi, Pro Vice-Chancellor.
