Pune: Defence Department Approves 18-Metre Road in Pimple Saudagar
Pune, 10th August 2023: The Defence Department has given the green light for an 18-metre-wide road to be built in Pimple Saudagar, Pune, aimed at enhancing connectivity and addressing long-standing road concerns. The decision emerged from a recent meeting between municipal authorities and defense department officials, signaling progress in the region’s urban development.
Sandeep Kate, a social worker in Pimple Saudagar, expressed optimism about the outcome, explaining, “After productive discussions between Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and defence department representatives, we’re pleased to share that the defence department has responded positively. The proposal is now with the Municipal Commissioner for further action. This resolution marks the end of a prolonged issue, and once the legal procedures are complete, the land will be handed over to the Municipal Corporation. Subsequently, tenders will be issued for the construction project.”
The road project addresses challenges posed by urbanization in the Kate Vasti area and surrounding regions, located beyond the defence boundary. The development plan involves constructing an 18-metre-wide road to connect various localities like Govind Garden, Kate Vasti, and Triose Society. However, about 600 meters of this road, spanning nine meters, falls under the Ministry of Defense’s jurisdiction, creating obstacles to its realization.
Former Corporator Nana Kate shed light on the historical context, saying, “Initially, the road was only five meters wide, mainly for pedestrians, and development was restricted due to military presence. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and the defence department, a breakthrough was achieved. The stretch from Hotel Crystal Hut to Triose Society will now become an 18-metre-wide road, greatly enhancing connectivity for residents and local farmers. The land acquisition process is expected to begin soon, followed by road construction post-monsoon.”
