Pune: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Directs Heavy Traffic Ban on Katraj-Kondhwa Road Amid Rising Accidents

Kondhwa, 22nd October 2023: Amid escalating concerns over road accidents, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has ordered a ban on heavy traffic during key hours on the Katraj-Kondhwa road. According to the directive, heavy traffic will be restricted from 10 AM to 12 AM and 5 PM to 7 PM, coinciding with school and college hours.

The decision was part of a broader meeting where Ajit Pawar, alongside key municipal and state officials, discussed various urban issues affecting Pune.

 

In addition to traffic management, Pawar also advocated for expediting stalled roadwork projects. He recommended discussions with landowners and proposed alternative relocations to clear obstacles.

 

The meeting, attended by Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Additional Commissioner Kunal Khemnar, and Vikas Dhakne, among others, also delved into various civic concerns. Former NCP corporators highlighted pressing issues ranging from unsanitary school toilets to incomplete water tank projects.

 

Pawar outlined multiple initiatives for the betterment of Pune. Among them were the prompt transfer of Zilla Parishad schools to the Education Board of the Municipal Corporation, establishing a sports university near Mohammadwadi, and prioritizing 80 percent completed building projects.

With public healthcare also on the agenda, Pawar called for urgent action to construct hospitals through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and kick-start the Science City project at Mundhwa.

 

On the subject of infrastructural development, a proposal for a new flyover from Hadapsar to Yawat was discussed. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been instructed to conduct a feasibility study for comprehensive projects including six-lane roads, flyovers, and metros on key routes.

 

In attendance were MLAs Chetan Tupe, Sunil Tingre, NCP city president Deepak Mankar, working president Pradeep Deshmukh, and former mayors among other dignitaries.
