Pune: Dhanori-Lohgaon Residents Protest Outside PMC Over Poor Infrastructure, Demand Urgent Civic Action

Shivajinagar/Lohgaon, 10th June 2025: Over 200 frustrated residents from Dhanori and Lohgaon, led by the Dhanori Lohgaon Residents Association (DLRA), staged a protest outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters on Tuesday.
The demonstrators demanded immediate resolution to persistent civic issues, including broken roads, irregular water supply, and inadequate drainage systems—especially along Bharat Mata Road and several pockets of Lohgaon.
The protest was spearheaded by citizen activist Girish Jaiwal and supported by members of the DLRA, who have long been voicing concerns about the deteriorating infrastructure in the area.
Local MLA Bapu Pathare also joined the protest, lending political weight to the residents’ appeal. Addressing the gathering, he urged PMC officials to act without delay. “These are not new complaints. The administration must prioritize Dhanori and Lohgaon’s civic needs, which have been overlooked for far too long,” he said.
Residents of Kohinoor Viva City and neighboring societies turned out in large numbers, reflecting the community’s growing discontent. Protesters held placards and chanted slogans, accusing PMC of neglecting their locality despite continued payment of property taxes.
“We’ve been dealing with dry taps, open drains, and potholed roads for months,” said Akhil Singhal, a local resident. “We are not here out of choice—we are here because our grievances are being ignored. If PMC can’t provide even the basic amenities, what are we paying taxes for?”
Members of DLRA pointed out that the lack of proper drainage has led to health hazards during the monsoon season, while damaged roads have made commuting difficult, especially for school children and senior citizens. The association has repeatedly submitted complaints, but says no concrete action has been taken.
“We will continue raising our voice until PMC responds with real solutions, not just verbal assurances,” a DLRA member said.
Residents warned of intensified demonstrations if their demands remain unmet.
