Pune, 22nd April 2025: A day after Punekar News reported the suspected suicide of a postgraduate student, the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) today issued an official statement confirming the incident and extending its condolences.

According to the statement, Aneet Abhishek, a second-year MSc (Applied Chemistry) student, attempted to end his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his room at Krishna Hostel on April 17.

His friends, alarmed by his absence throughout the day and unsuccessful attempts to contact him, went to check on him around 8:30 pm. Finding his room locked from the inside, they broke open the door and discovered him hanging. DIAT said Abhishek was rushed to a nearby hospital in the institute’s ambulance, where he was declared dead. His body was later taken to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem as per standard procedure.

The Nanded City Police Station (Pune City Police) was informed immediately. Officers visited the scene, seized Abhishek’s belongings—including his laptop, mobile phone, and tablet—and recovered a suicide note. Initial findings indicate he was suffering from depression.

“This tragic loss has left the entire community in deep sorrow,” DIAT stated.

In response, a condolence meeting was held on April 21 at the campus. During the gathering, students were offered counselling and urged to reach out to faculty members or the institute’s official counsellor if they were facing any emotional or academic difficulties.
