Pune, 20th June 2025: The discharge of water from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha river basin has been reduced to 11,924 cusecs from the earlier 15,092 cusecs, the Irrigation Department confirmed on Friday morning.

The change was implemented at 10:00 AM, and further adjustments remain possible depending on rainfall patterns and reservoir levels, said Mohan Bhadane, Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division in Swargate.

“The discharge has been reduced as of 10 am today based on the current inflow and storage. We are monitoring the situation closely, and future adjustments—either increase or decrease—will be made depending on rainfall and overall dam conditions,” said Bhadane in an official statement.

The department has issued a public alert asking residents and local administrations to remain cautious as water levels in the river may fluctuate. Citizens living near the riverbed are advised not to venture close to the water and to immediately relocate any materials, livestock, or belongings from low-lying areas.

The Pune Municipal Corporation, disaster management teams, and local police authorities have also been informed to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

Officials emphasized that such regulated releases are part of standard monsoon management to prevent dam overflow while ensuring sufficient water supply downstream.

The Khadakwasla Dam is one of Pune’s key reservoirs and plays a critical role in flood control, irrigation, and water supply for the city and surrounding areas.
