Pune: Discharge From Khadakwasla Dam To Start Today Evening, Citizens Appealed To Take Precautions

Pune 25th July 2023: The district administration in Pune has informed that the discharge from Khadakwasla dam into Mutha river will start from today evening following continuous rainfall reported in the catchment area. The Khadakwasla dam will be filed upto 100% of its by today evening, said officials.
“Water discharge from Khadakwasla dam into river will start with 1,000 cusescs from 5 pm today. The citizens are advised not to enter the river basin and remove animals as well as other material kept there. People in the low lying areas should remain alert and take necessary precautions” the official message stated.
The ghat sections in the Pune district have recieved heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours following which water levels in the dam has increased. According to IMD data, 230 mm rainfall has been reported in the Tamhini Ghat area in the last 24 hours while 136 mm rainfall was reported in Lonavala and 175 mm rainfall was reported at Shirgaon.
IMD has issued an orange alert for Pune district till July 27. ‘Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the ghat areas’ has been predicted on July 25 and 27 while ‘extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas’ has been predicted for July 26.
