Pune, 26th September 2023: The Pune district administration has decided to forcibly acquire land in 13 villages across Maval, Mulshi, and Haveli talukas for the western section of the ring road project led by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The decision was made in a meeting chaired by District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh.

A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of the District Collector to discuss the land acquisition for the ring road project. Representatives from MSRDC, the Land Acquisition Officer, and the District Officer were present. It was decided that police assistance would be sought if necessary to prevent delays in the project.

MSRDC has undertaken the construction of a 172 km long and 110-meter wide ring road to alleviate traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad cities. The project will be executed in two phases: East and West. The eastern part will affect villages in Maval, Khed, Haveli, Purandar, and Bhor, while the western part will impact villages in Bhor, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval.

The land acquisition process for the western section began on July 5, with notices sent to affected villagers and a consent deadline set for July 30. Due to complaints from locals about the assessment, the deadline was extended to August 21, and a 25% additional remuneration was offered for timely consent.

Despite the extended deadline, locals from 13 villages—six in Maval taluka, three in Mulshi taluka, and four in Haveli taluka—have not given their consent. As a result, the administration has decided to forcibly acquire the land by issuing final notices.
