Pune Airport’s Cargo Service Gains Traction Among Manufacturers and Traders
Pune, 26th September 2023: Pune Airport’s cargo service is witnessing a surge in demand from manufacturers and traders. After receiving approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), six companies have commenced cargo services. From September 1 to 24, a total of 3.4 lakh kg of material was transported, with projections to reach 36 lakh kg by the end of the month.
Since receiving clearance from BCAS, six companies have initiated cargo services at Pune Airport. The service has been operational from September 1, and within the first 24 days, it has already transported 3.4 lakh kg of material. This figure is expected to rise to 36 lakh kg by the end of September, surpassing the previous monthly average of 30 lakh kg.
The cargo service charges Rs 5 per kg for sending goods by air, inclusive of all taxes. However, there is a minimum charge for 100 kg, meaning even if the weight of the goods is less than 100 kg, the rate for 100 kg (Rs 525) will be applied. Those with smaller consignments can save costs by consolidating their shipments with others.
The cargo terminal’s opening has been a boon for small and large entrepreneurs and traders in Pune. The rates for sending and receiving goods differ, and an increase in air traffic is expected to boost cargo traffic as well.
Each aircraft operating from Pune has varying cargo capacities. Generally, one plane can transport up to four tons of goods. If an aircraft has more passenger baggage, the cargo capacity is reduced to 3.5 tons.
The cargo service primarily transports vehicle spare parts, especially those related to the auto industry. Following that, perishable items like apples and flowers are being sent in large quantities to destinations like Delhi and Kolkata.
The cargo service at Pune Airport is proving to be a vital asset for manufacturers and traders in the region. With competitive rates and increasing demand, the service is set to play a significant role in the local economy.
