Pune, 12th April 2024: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled the program for the Lok Sabha General Elections, with a focus on maintaining a peaceful and orderly electoral process. District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase, following decisions made in a Scrutiny Committee meeting under relevant legal sections, has issued orders for 3,318 arms license holders across 33 police station jurisdictions to surrender their 3,359 firearms to local police stations.

These measures are intended to avoid any law and order issues during the election period and will remain in effect until June 6. Arms license holders are required to deposit their licensed weapons within seven days of receiving the order, and the police are responsible for collecting the firearms and ensuring they are safely stored and returned in their original condition. Non-compliance may result in punishment under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
