Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds Likely in Pune Soon: IMD Issues Nowcast Warning
Pune, 20th May 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, has issued a nowcast warning predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate rainfall, and gusty winds in parts of Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar districts on Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement issued at 2:00 PM, the IMD said, “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Sambhajinagar and Pune during the next 3-4 hours.”
The department has urged residents to take necessary precautions while venturing outdoors. “People are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorm activity and avoid open areas or sheltering under trees,” the statement added.
The warning comes amid ongoing pre-monsoon activity in Maharashtra, with several parts of the state witnessing unseasonal showers and stormy conditions in recent days.
