Pune, 18th December 2025: Central Railway detected 3.05 lakh cases of ticketless or unauthorised travel in the Pune Division between April and November of the financial year 2025–26, recovering penalties amounting to ₹18.40 crore, according to official data released by the railway authorities.

The figures are part of a broader enforcement drive across Central Railway’s network aimed at curbing travel without valid tickets. During the same period, Central Railway apprehended a total of 27.51 lakh passengers travelling without tickets or with improper or invalid travel authority, an increase of nearly 10 per cent compared to 25.08 lakh cases recorded during the corresponding period of FY 2024–25.

The total penalty collected across all divisions during April–November 2025 stood at ₹164.91 crore, up by more than 19 per cent from ₹138.44 crore collected in FY 2024–25.

In the Pune Division, ticket checking drives were carried out across Mail/Express, Passenger, Special and suburban train services. These checks were part of coordinated operations including station checks, ambush checks, fortress checks, intensive checks and mega ticket checking drives.

Division-wise data for FY 2025–26 (April–November) shows that Bhusaval Division recorded the highest penalty collection at ₹59.25 crore from 6.94 lakh cases, followed by Mumbai Division with ₹48.79 crore from 11.34 lakh cases. Pune Division ranked next with ₹18.40 crore from 3.05 lakh cases, while Nagpur Division collected ₹18.13 crore from 2.92 lakh cases. Solapur Division reported ₹7.50 crore from 1.60 lakh cases, and Railway Headquarters accounted for ₹12.82 crore from 1.66 lakh cases.

In November 2025 alone, Central Railway apprehended 3.74 lakh ticketless passengers across its network, compared to 2.98 lakh cases in November 2024, marking an increase of over 25 per cent. Penalties collected during the month amounted to ₹23.63 crore, up from ₹14.08 crore in November 2024.

Railway authorities stated that passengers are required to travel only with valid tickets issued through authorised booking counters, ATVMs, the IRCTC website or the UTS mobile application. Travelling with fake or fraudulently generated tickets is a punishable offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023.
