Pune: DLSA to Offer Doorstep Medical Assessments for Disabled Children

Pune, 30th June 2025: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) will soon provide doorstep medical assessment services for children with disabilities who face mobility challenges, announced Principal District and Sessions Judge Mahendra K. Mahajan.

Speaking at the inauguration of a special empowerment camp for disabled citizens at Bal Kalyan Sanstha, Ganeshkhind, on Friday, Judge Mahajan emphasized that “Every disabled child should have equal opportunities for education, growth, and success. Inclusion is their right.” The doorstep initiative, he explained, will ensure that no disabled child is left behind.

The camp, organized by the DLSA, saw participation from Secretary Sonal Patil, Disability Commissioner Pravin Puri, Bal Kalyan Sanstha Chairman Padmashree Prataprao Pawar, and other dignitaries.

Key Achievements of the Camp:
Medical assessment and certification provided to over 100 disabled children
Around 500 beneficiaries received legal, medical, and welfare support
Major Services Provided:
Counseling for children with disabilities
Parental guidance sessions
Aadhaar card registration
Free legal consultation
Registration for PMC and PCMC welfare schemes
Information on scholarships and pension benefits
Guidance on education through the National Open University

Doctors from Aundh District Hospital and Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, Pimpri, conducted assessments for conditions including blindness, low vision, hearing impairment, locomotor disabilities, intellectual disabilities, mental illness, autism, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, muscular dystrophy, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, chronic neurological disorders, dwarfism, acid attack injuries, and multiple disabilities.

NGOs such as Action for Impact Foundation, Ekansh Trust, Saptrishi Foundation, and Jain Divine Group supported the camp by distributing wheelchairs and school supplies.

“This is a collective step toward empowering the differently-abled,” added DLSA Secretary Sonal Patil.
