Viman Nagar, 13th February 2025: In a bid to ease traffic congestion on Pune-Nagar Road, a flyover from Hyatt Hotel, Viman Nagar to Shirur was initially proposed. However, discussions about shortening its length have recently gained momentum, with reports suggesting that a four-kilometer stretch in the urban area has been excluded. In response, Vadgaon Sheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare met Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to raise concerns and urge the retention of the flyover’s original length.

During the meeting, Pathare submitted a formal representation, stressing the importance of maintaining the originally proposed flyover from Hyatt Hotel, Viman Nagar to Shirur without any modifications.

Highlighting the necessity of the stretch, he stated, “Several major intersections between Viman Nagar and Khandve Nagar experience heavy traffic congestion. Rapid urbanization in Kharadi and Wagholi—driven by IT companies, educational institutions, residential projects, and individual houses—has worsened the situation. Key junctions facing severe congestion include the CTR Company intersection in Viman Nagar, Tata Guard Room, Kharadi Bypass, the intersection near Janak Baba Dargah leading to EON IT Park, and the Kharadi Check Post Junction. If the flyover length is reduced, traffic congestion will persist and worsen in the coming years.”

Pathare underscored that retaining the full length of the proposed flyover is crucial for improving traffic flow on Pune-Nagar Road. However, no official clarification has been provided regarding the rationale behind reducing its length. The MLA met Minister Gadkari at the Lok Sabha Secretariat in New Delhi while attending a parliamentary study session.

Following the meeting, Pathare expressed his gratitude to Minister Gadkari for his positive response and emphasized the role of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) in the project.

“I sincerely thank Union Minister Gadkari for his positive response to the representation. If the Pune Municipal Corporation transfers the road to MSRDC, the proposed flyover from Hyatt Hotel, Viman Nagar to Kharadi Check Post can be constructed without reducing its length”, Pathare said.
