Pune: Doctor And His Family Members Booked For Torturing Woman For Dowry

Pune, 16th May 2022: Within two days of her marriage, a newly married woman had to face abuse from her husband and in-laws. After sexually assaulting her and beating her with a leather belt over the need for high-end cars, her husband, an ENT specialist in Gujarat, allegedly placed liquor bottles into her private parts and beat her with a leather belt.

 

The victim sought assistance from the local police and contacted her parents in Pune for assistance. The Wanowrie police station have booked her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and daughter-in-law, as well as her spouse, who is a Madhya Pradesh resident.

 

The 37-year-old woman, who was subjected to physical abuse, has filed a zero-case complaint with the Wanowrie police station against her husband and in-laws.

The well-educated victim holds a D.Ed, B.Ed, M.Ed, MBA, and is working on a Ph.D. Her two siblings have made Australia their home. She had registered her identity on a matrimonial website, where she discovered a profile match with the principal accused, Samuel, who is an MBBS with a specialty in ENT.

 

The couple got engaged in February 2022 and married in a five-star hotel in Hinjewadi on April 27. The woman said in her complaint that her in-laws began pestering her about the wedding expenses the day after the wedding. Her husband assaulted her on April 30 over the same issue, and when she sought assistance from her in-laws, they told her that she would have to suffer the brunt of the punishment because her husband is prone to such behaviour.

 

The victim told police that her husband beat her with a leather belt and inserted a liquor bottle into her private parts, and committed unnatural intercourse with her. Her husband was demanding a high end car from her parents.

 

Advocates Pushkar Patil and Sajan Mehbubani filed a complaint with Wanowrie police as well Madhya Pradesh Police.

 

Pune city police have booked the accused for offences under sections 498A (cruelty against married woman), 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offence) , 341 (wrongful confinement) , 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) , 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

 

“The entire incident took place in Madhya Pradesh, but the MP police did not take cognizance. The incident is very serious and genuine in nature, therefore we registered zero FIR and sent it to MP police with the signature of Deputy Commissioner of Police,” said Senior Police Inspector Deepak Lagad, in-charge of Wanowrie Police station.
