Pune: ‘Doctor’ Arrested For Cheating Patients’ Relatives By ‘Prescribing’ Costly Injections

Pune February 2, 2021: The officials from Bundgarden police station, Pune city police, have arrested a vagrant for allegedly cheating relatives of patients admitted to Sassoon General Hospital in the city.

The arrested accused had been calling patients’ relatives and forcing them to pay money online for expensive injections allegedly required for the treatment.

The arrested accused has 21 cases registered against him at various police stations. The latest case was filed against him at the Bundgarden police station two days ago.

The arrested accused has been identified as Amit Jagannath Kamble (37), a resident of Nimbalkarwadi in the Navi Peth area. He was taking advantage of the relatives of patients undergoing treatment for serious illnesses by getting their contact numbers. He then would call them by posing as Dr Deshpande claiming that the patient needed an injection which was not available at the hospital and would urgently have to be ordered from outside.

He would then further tell them that he knew people at the pharmacy and could get the injection at a lower cost. After which, he would ask them to send money online. In a recent case filed at the Bundgarden police station, the complainants Umashankar Tiwari and Vijay Gudle had been cheated of Rs 22,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Based on the technical analysis, the accused has been taken into custody from Sassoon Hospital.

The action was taken under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Sagar Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Chandrakant Sangale by the team comprising Police Sub-Inspector Ramkrishna Dalvi, Constable Sheikh, Harish More, Santosh Pagar, Police Naik Rupesh Pisal, Anil Kusalkar, Kailash Dukare, Police Constable Sagar Ghorpade, Kiran Talekar, and Ankush Khansole.
