Pune: Doctor Deceived with Promises of Heaven, Scammers Pocket Rs 5.37 Crore in Property Scam

Kondhwa, 13th April 2024: A senior citizen, who is a doctor by profession, fell victim to smooth-talking tactics over time. The perpetrators managed to deceive him into handing over 11 reward certificates for various properties, promising spiritual merit and heavenly rewards. Additionally, assets worth millions, including cash, gold articles, and gold biscuits, were unlawfully acquired from him.

The extent of the fraud amounts to a staggering 5 crore 37 lakh 90 thousand rupees. A case has been registered at Kondhwa Police Station under sections 420, 406, 323, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, covering the period from October 17, 2018, to April 11.

The accused individuals identified are Sadiq Abdulmajeed Shaikh, Yasmin Sadiq Shaikh, Etesham Sadiq Shaikh, Ammar Sadiq Shaikh, all residing in Harmony Society, Kondhwa-Bibwewadi Road, Gultekdi, and Raj Adhaw alias Narsu. A 67-year-old resident of NIBM Road, Kondhwa, lodged the complaint.

According to the police, Sadiq, along with his wife Yasmin and children Etesham and Ammar, cultivated a close relationship with the doctor. They gradually persuaded him with sweet words and religious teachings, promising greater spiritual attainment and heavenly rewards.

Subsequently, they managed to obtain 11 reward letters for different properties and unlawfully acquired various assets, including cash and gold items, for their own financial gain.

Upon realizing the deception, the doctor demanded the return of his property, but the perpetrators refused. The complaint outlines how he was duped out of his assets worth millions. Further investigation into the matter is being conducted by Police Inspector (Crime) Patil.
