Pune, 14th February 2025: A well-known skin specialist from Pune and his friend were allegedly cheated of ₹1.5 crore in a virtual currency investment scam. The Chatushrungi police have registered a case against a Jaipur-based doctor, who is suspected of defrauding multiple individuals using similar tactics.

According to the police, the complainant—a reputed dermatologist—filed a complaint stating that he was introduced to the accused doctor in 2019 through a mutual acquaintance. Their connection strengthened during the COVID-19 pandemic when the Pune doctor helped one of the accused’s relatives who had contracted the virus.

Taking advantage of this trust, the accused persuaded the complainant to invest ₹10 lakh in virtual currency, promising high returns. Gaining further confidence, he then convinced the complainant’s friend to invest ₹1.49 crore. However, after receiving the money, the accused failed to provide any returns or refunds.

When the victims demanded their money back, the accused allegedly refused and even issued death threats. Realizing they had been scammed, the complainant approached the Chatushrungi police, who registered a case and launched an investigation.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the accused doctor may have cheated multiple individuals using the same fraudulent scheme. The police are now working to identify additional victims and determine the total extent of the scam.
