Pune, 14th February 2025: In a significant effort to assist citizens, the Pune City Police have successfully traced and recovered 456 lost or missing mobile phones with the help of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The recovered phones were returned to their rightful owners in a formal handover ceremony at Hirkani Hall, Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar.

The Pune City Police have made the Lost and Found portal available on their official website, allowing citizens to report lost or missing mobile phones. Once a complaint is filed, citizens receive an online missing property certificate, which they can use to register their complaint on the CEIR central portal using their Aadhaar card. The portal then helps track the IMEI number of the lost phone and identifies the new SIM card being used in the device. This information is then relayed to the police for further investigation and recovery.

To streamline the process, the Crime Branch, Computer Branch, and Cyber Police Station of Pune City Police formed six joint teams to track the lost devices. Over the past month, the police received 2,300 complaints of lost mobile phones, out of which 456 have been successfully traced and recovered. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining lost devices, including those that have been traced outside Pune.

At the handover event, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar personally returned the recovered mobile phones to the citizens. The recipients expressed their gratitude, with many commending the police for their dedication and efficiency.
Pune City Police have urged citizens to take advantage of the Lost and Found portal and the CEIR platform to report lost mobile phones promptly, ensuring quicker recovery and reducing mobile theft-related crimes in the city.
The said action was successfully carried out by the police teams under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade,DCPs Nikhil Pingale, Vivek Masal and ACP Machhindra Khade.
