Pune Doctor’s Registration Canceled by Maharashtra Medical Council Over Malpractice
Pune, 28th December 2024: The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has taken stern action against Pune-based Dr. Sireesha Mohan, canceling her medical registration for three years due to insurance fraud and unethical practices. The decision, announced by MMC President Dr. Vinky Rughwani, follows previous allegations and non-compliance with council directives.
“We revoked Dr. Mohan’s registration for three years and informed the National Medical Commission and state health officials,” said Dr. Rughwani. “She is barred from practicing, and any violations will result in criminal action.”
Dr. Mohan faced allegations from the Maharashtra Association of Practicing Pathologists and Microbiologists (MAPPM). Dr. Sundeep Yadav, MAPPM state president, revealed that the accusations date back to 2019, when a complaint by Dr. Prasad Kulkarni, backed by an insurance fraud detection agency, exposed Mohan’s fraudulent practices.
Investigations uncovered that Dr. Mohan was attached to multiple pathology labs across locations far from Pune, raising questions about the authenticity of her involvement. Her signature was frequently found on insurance claim reports, despite the impracticality of her presence in these labs.
“She routinely signed pathology reports and continued to do so even after her suspension,” said Dr. Kulkarni. “This disregard for ethical standards necessitated strict action.”
Dr. Mohan had already faced a six-month suspension in 2020, but her continued defiance of MMC notices and repeated malpractice led to the council’s latest decision. Dr. Rughwani emphasized, “This action sends a strong message that unethical practices will not be tolerated.”
