Pune: Dog Lovers Abused And Beaten By Residents Of Brahma Suncity Society

Wadgaon Sheri, 13th February 2023: Animal activists were abused, beaten and harassed by residents of Brahma Suncity Society in the Wadgaon Sheri area of Pune.

The residents had earlier protested against stray dogs menace at the society where over 5,000 people reside. The matter was aggravated after a child was brutally injured by some dogs.

According to the medical reports of Sassoon hospital, it was clear that the child was severely bitten by dogs. After the incident, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken away the stray dogs.

On Saturday at around 1.30 pm, two animal activists were assaulted. Nitasha Saxena (35), an animal activist, and a resident of Viman Nagar has lodged a complaint at Yerwada police station in this regard. Police have registered an FIR against Swapnil Holkar, and Nitin Nigam along with around ten women, who are residents of Brahma Suncity Society.

Nitasha and Kapil Patwardhan (30) were visiting one of their friends; Kavya Patel, who is residing at Brahma Suncity Society. After getting their four-wheeler checked by security, they were trying to find the building of their friend.

Reportedly, at that time, two residents, Holkar and Nigam blocked the car and started asking them about their arrival. When Saxena and Patwardhan told them that they were visiting Patel, about 40-50 residents started shouting and gathering more people with sticks in their hands.

Terrified by the view, Kapil started Instagram Live. Getting enraged by this, residents started hitting and choking him in the car. In this, Kapil got some serious injuries on his head. His iPhone 14 Pro was also snatched in the melee.

When Nitasha started recording the videos of the horrifying scene, around ten women forced her to come out of the car and started beating her.

Puneeta Khanna, Animal Activist, while talking to PunekarNews.in informed that Pune Police, residents, and animal activists are planning to come out with a committee to stop these incidents. “When Nitasha and Kapil went to the society, they were heavily abused and beaten by the residents, resulting in them having severe injuries. We admitted them to Sassoon hospital and then went to file an FIR against Holkar and Nigam.”

Police have booked the residents for offences under sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 427 (damage to property), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 143 (unlawful assembly), 144 (joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon),147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Assistant Police Inspector Ravindra Alekar is further investigating the case.
