Wanowrie, 7th August 2021: Pune city police have booked a woman domestic help for allegedly stealing a biometric safe with Rs 55,000 cash, ornaments and foreign currency collectively valued at Rs 24.88 lakh from the residence of an elderly couple at Gulmohar Habitat society in Wanowrie.

Based on a complaint from a 76-year-old man, Wanowrie police station has registered an FIR against the woman domestic maid who had identified herself as Jayshree. Police said that she was hired on the recommendation of an acquaintance. Jayshree had evaded submitting a photocopy of her Aadhar card to the complainant.

According to the police, the couple lived alone. Their son and daughter-in-law reside in Dubai, while two daughters are married. The domestic help had worked from July 27 to 30. She used to come around 9.30 am and work till noon. Every day the elderly couple asked her to submit her Aadhar card and she used to say that she had forgotten to bring it.

“On July 30, she left around 10.30 am saying she has some work and promised to return by noon to finish the remaining work. She came back around 12.30 pm and began the work. My wife was resting in the room. I also went to the room for Friday prayers. When we came out around 4.30 pm, Jayshree was not there. She did not come for work from the next day. When I asked the acquaintance who had referred her, she told me that she neither has the phone number nor the address of Jayshree”, the complainant told police.

Till 6th August the couple did not realise the theft. “As we had to keep the ornaments in a bank locker ahead of Muharram, my wife went to check the Godrej company biometric safe and found it to be missing from the cupboard on August 6. Indian (Rs 55,000) and foreign currencies (500 USA dollars and 4000 Dubai Dirham) were also missing from her purse”, the elderly man stated in his complaint.

Police said that the investigation is going on to trace the culprit. Assistant Police Inspector Jaywant Jadhav is further investigating the case.
