Pune: Dowry Harassment Leads to Married Woman’s Suicide in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Moshi, 22nd July 2025: A woman was continuously harassed, both mentally and physically, in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Moshi area, leading her to die by suicide. The harassment stemmed from dowry-related demands. The incident occurred on 17th July in Borhade Wasti, Moshi.

The deceased has been identified as Kiran Dhamodar. Her father, Sanjay Dod (age 58, resident of Akola), filed a complaint at MIDC Bhosari Police Station. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against Deepak Dhamodar (age 60, resident of Akola), who has since been arrested.

According to police reports, the accused repeatedly demanded money from the complainant’s daughter, Kiran, for not receiving dowry during the marriage. A total of Rs 5 lakh was extorted from the complainant in multiple installments. Despite this, the accused continued to demand more money and a motorcycle, subjecting Kiran to physical assaults, verbal abuse, and constant threats.

Unable to bear the ongoing torture, Kiran died by suicide. The Bhosari MIDC Police are conducting further investigation.
