Pune: Dr. Tapan Singhel Joins SPPU’s Heritage Walk, Applauds Historic Preservation

Pune, 20th July 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) hosted a special Heritage Walk on its historic campus, drawing participation from esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Tapan Singhel and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suresh Gosavi.
Dr. Tapan Singhel, Managing Director and CEO of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co. Ltd., was a notable guest during the walk.
The Heritage Walk is a flagship initiative of SPPU aimed at showcasing the university’s architectural splendor, botanical richness, and cultural heritage. As one of India’s most prestigious and historic institutions, SPPU offers a unique blend of academic excellence and historical significance.
The walk featured key landmarks including the iconic Main Building, the Convocation Hall, the 150-year-old Banyan Tree, and the serene botanical garden. Participants were treated to narratives that traced the evolution and historical relevance of these spaces.

Members from the Department of Commerce and the Institute of Healthcare, Insurance & Risk Management—who were also involved in launching Foundation Courses in Health Insurance Risk Management and Health Insurance Data Analytics—joined the walk, reinforcing the event’s academic and interdisciplinary relevance.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suresh Gosavi actively participated, engaging with students and faculty and sharing insightful anecdotes about the university’s legacy. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering cultural awareness and institutional pride.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singhel praised the university’s efforts in heritage conservation. He described the initiative as a “commendable effort to bridge the past with the present” and a source of inspiration for future generations.
The walk witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff, creating an atmosphere of learning and celebration. With plans to organize more such interactive events, SPPU continues to uphold its role not just as an academic institution but also as a steward of history and culture.
