Pune/Chandipur (Odisha), 31st December 2025: In a major boost to India’s indigenous missile capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a salvo launch of two Pralay missiles from the same launcher off the Odisha coast on Tuesday. Pune-based DRDO laboratories, including the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), were pivotal in the development and testing of the missile system.

The launch, part of user evaluation flight-tests, took place at approximately 10:30 am from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur. Both missiles followed their designated flight paths and achieved all mission objectives. Performance was closely monitored through tracking sensors deployed by ITR, while terminal events were verified via onboard telemetry systems installed on ships near the target points.

About the Pralay Missile-
The Pralay is a solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic missile developed indigenously with advanced guidance and navigation systems, ensuring high accuracy. Capable of delivering multiple types of warheads over varied targets, the missile significantly strengthens India’s conventional deterrence capabilities.

The missile system was developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, in collaboration with several DRDO laboratories across India, including Pune’s ARDE and HEMRL, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), and the Research & Development Establishment (Engineers). System integration and production support were provided by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and other Indian industry partners.

The launch was witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, officials from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, and representatives from participating defence industries, marking yet another successful milestone in India’s missile programme.
