Pune: Drone Cameras To Be Used On Trial Basis In 12 Prisons Of State; Maharashtra To Become Second State In Country To Use Drones

Pune, 19th April 2023: The prisons in the state will now be monitored by drone cameras. The internal security of the prison premises and the movement of prisoners will be closely monitored through drone cameras.

In a press conference, Additional Director General of Prisons Amitabh Gupta informed that after Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra will become the second state in the country to use drone cameras for surveillance in prison premises.

In the first phase, drone cameras will be used for internal security in 12 prisons in the state.

Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Department Swati Sathe, Deputy Inspector General Sunil Dhamal, Yerwada Jail Superintendent Rani Bhosale, Principal Daulatrao Jadhav, Jail Officer Training College Principal Chandramani Indurkar, etc were present on this occasion.

Drone cameras will be used to enhance prison security. Drone cameras can also be used to film in the prison area at night. Due to the drone cameras, it will be possible to keep a close eye on every happening in the prison.

Gupta mentioned that drone cameras will be used for surveillance in Yerwada Central Jail, Kolhapur, Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Taloja, Thane, Amravati, Nagpur, Kalyan, and Chandrapur jails on a trial basis.

“The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued some guidelines to enable the security of jails, as well as security measures. Accordingly, drone cameras will be used on an experimental basis in 12 prisons of the state,” Gupta added further.
