Pune Drought: 180 Tankers Provide Lifeline to 144 Villages, 923 Settlements

Pune, 7th May 2024: A total of 180 tankers are supplying drinking water to 144 villages and 923 settlements in Pune district. The population in these areas, totalling 2,62,696 people, is reliant on tanker water to quench their thirst.

As the fervour of the Lok Sabha elections intensifies in the district, so does the severity of the drought. Many villages and settlements are grappling with acute water scarcity due to the receding rainfall. Despite water being supplied by tankers, citizens are forced to plead for water under the scorching sun, as dams and lakes dry up.

In the district, the highest number of tankers, totalling 80, are operational in Purandar taluka. This taluka is experiencing severe water scarcity, affecting 53 villages and 349 settlements. Following Purandar, Baramati taluka has 28 tankers servicing 17 affected villages and 207 settlements.

Ambegaon is receiving water via 20 tankers, Shirur with 11 tankers, Bhor with 9 tankers, Khed with 4 tankers, Daund with 9 tankers, Haveli with 8 tankers, Indapur with 4 tankers, and Junnar with 14 tankers.
