Pune: Drumstick Prices Drop Sharply As Supply Increases In Summer

Market Yard, 17th March 2025: After reaching record highs of ₹600 per kg during winter, drumstick prices have now plummeted due to increased supply. In the retail market, drumsticks are currently being sold at ₹40 to ₹50 per kg.

The high prices in December were attributed to unseasonal rainfall in southern states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, which affected cultivation. As a result, drumstick prices soared, reaching ₹500 to ₹600 per kg in retail markets. However, with the onset of summer, production has picked up significantly in regions like Pune, Nashik, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Pandharpur. Increased temperatures have prompted farmers to harvest drumsticks, leading to a surplus in the market and a consequent drop in prices.

According to traders at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, wholesale prices for drumsticks have fallen to ₹10 to ₹20 per kg, depending on quality. In bulk markets, a 10 kg batch is now priced between ₹100 and ₹200. Despite the higher supply, demand remains moderate.

Traditionally, drumstick prices rise in winter due to lower harvesting rates, but they stabilize as production increases in March and April. Currently, the quality of drumsticks arriving in the market is good, with around 1,000 to 1,500 bags being supplied daily, each containing approximately 30 kg of drumsticks.

Current Drumstick Prices:

– Wholesale Market (10 kg batch): ₹100 to ₹200
– Retail Market (per kg): ₹40 to ₹50
