Pune: Drunk Driver Abuses Wakad Cops After Crash, Later Issues Public Apology
Pune, 31st August 2026: A man whose video showing him allegedly abusing and aggressively confronting police personnel while drunk in Pimpri Chinchwad went viral on social media has now apologised for his behaviour, saying he regretted his remarks and would not repeat them.
The man, identified as Shashank Prashant Khanvalkar, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on the Aundh-Hinjewadi BRT corridor on Sunday evening when his car hit another vehicle before crashing into a divider.
The incident took place around 6pm. Wakad police stopped Khanvalkar and tried to caution him against driving recklessly and putting other road users at risk. However, he allegedly became aggressive and started abusing the police in obscene language.
“Call your commissioner, I am right here,” Khanvalkar allegedly told the police, challenging them to call their senior officer. He also allegedly moved towards the police personnel while abusing and threatening them.
A video of the confrontation subsequently went viral on social media. In the video, Khanvalkar is seen arguing with the police and allegedly using abusive language while challenging them to call the commissioner.
Wakad police registered a case against him and also served him a legal notice following the incident.
Later, Khanvalkar recorded a video apologising for his conduct. He said the remarks were made inadvertently and acknowledged that the police had arrived at the spot to assist him.
“I said what I did unintentionally. The police had come there to help me. I apologise for the statements I made about the police. I will never do this again,” he said.
The incident has drawn attention to the dangers of drunk driving as well as aggressive behaviour towards police personnel carrying out their duties.
