Pimple Gurav, 9th August 2024: In Pimpri Chinchwad, a shocking incident occurred involving a Mahindra Scorpio crashing into a delivery boy on a two-wheeler, dragging the vehicle for several meters. The driver of the Scorpio was reportedly drunk at the time. This incident took place on Wednesday (7th August) at around 2:15 PM in Pimple Gurav. It took approximately 1.5 days before a case was registered.
The victims, Sharad Kisan Surawase (26) and Mantesh Lingappa Chignur, both residents of Pimple Gurav, were injured in the accident. Surawase reported the incident to the Sangvi Police Station, and a case was registered against the driver, Dattu Rambhau Lokhande (39), also a resident of Pimple Gurav.
According to police reports, Lokhande was driving his Mahindra Scorpio (registration number – MH 14 LP 7492) under the influence of alcohol when he hit the two-wheeler (registration number – MH14 JC 9947) near Tulja Bhavan Temple in Pimple Gurav. After the collision, Lokhande dragged the two-wheeler, along with its riders, for several meters. Sharad sustained injuries in the incident, while Mantesh was seriously injured. Both are receiving treatment at a private hospital in Pimple Gurav. The Sangvi Police are conducting further investigations.
Following the accident, the Sangvi Police detained the car driver, but due to the lack of a ‘formal’ complaint, they released him, despite his apparent intoxication at the time of the incident. Attempts to reach Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Swapna Gore and Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bansode from Sangvi Police Station for their comments were unsuccessful, as they did not respond.
