Pune: Drunk Driving Cases Decreased By Three Times Compared To Last Year

Pune, January 1, 2021: The Puneites have welcomed this new year with peace and by following rules. According to the statistics of Pune city police, the number of drunk driving (DD) cases have decreased three times compared to last year. 132 people were charged for drunk driving. Most people celebrated 31st at home.

People were asked to cooperate while celebrating the new year. Accordingly, citizens were not seen on the streets after 11 pm yesterday. For celebrating new year youngsters were present in large numbers at Fergusson road, Bajirao road, Lakshmi road, J M Road, Camp, Koregaon Park and other places.

This year due to the Covid-19 crisis, many people celebrated the new year with their families at home. There was peace in the city, no crowd, noise. As night curfew was imposed so there was a police bandobast seen in the city, due to which there was no crowd. Police inspected vehicles and took action against drivers travelling without helmets, license and masks.

Action was taken by police against 132 people for driving after consuming alcohol. Last year the action was taken against 460 people for drunk driving.

No inspection by the breath analyzer

Breathalyzer machines are used by the traffic police to check if drivers have consumed alcohol. However, the machines were not used this time to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The use of the machine was avoided on demand of citizens, said police. A blood test was conducted to check alcohol consumption.
