Pune: Eastern Pune Gets Metro Boost: Hadapsar–Loni Kalbhor, Saswad Routes Approved
Pune, 4th November 2025: In a major boost to Pune’s public transport infrastructure, the Maharashtra Cabinet’s Infrastructure Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved two key metro extensions, Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar Bus Depot to Saswad Road, under Pune Metro Phase II (Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi corridor).
Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar confirmed the approval, calling it a significant step forward for Pune’s eastern suburbs. “The state government’s decision will ease traffic congestion, expand metro connectivity, and bring fast, reliable transport to eastern Pune and adjoining rural areas,” Pawar said.

Connectivity and Benefits
The newly approved extensions will link rapidly growing suburban areas such as Hadapsar, Fursungi, Loni Kalbhor, and Saswad with the main Pune Metro network. These routes are expected to:
-Reduce travel time significantly for daily commuters
-Alleviate vehicular congestion along the eastern corridor
-Reduce pollution levels by promoting public transport over private vehicles
-Support regional economic development by improving connectivity between urban and peri-urban zones
Pawar added that the expansion aligns with Pune’s long-term goal of a seamless, sustainable urban transport system. “The Metro’s reach toward the city’s eastern and rural belts will transform the daily commute for lakhs of residents, providing faster, safer, and cleaner mobility options,” he said.
