Pune: Eight Leopards Sighted In Manchar Area; Fear Growing Among Residents

Manchar, 23rd August 2021: Six leopards and two leopard cubs were captured in CCTV cameras set up at Annasaheb Awate college and the Govardhan milk plant in Manchar. This has created fear among citizens who go for a morning walk in this area.

Recently, the security guards Ramdas Bhor and Sandip Keke saw a female leopard with her two cubs. They informed the college administration. Principal Dr K.G. Kanade verified the information by checking the CCTV footage.

He said that the CCTV footage from the Govardhan milk plant was also checked and the leopard was seen in the footage. We have informed the forest department. The Human Resources development officer Arvind Desai also demanded to set up cages in this area. We have also appealed to citizens that they should avoid coming to this area as much as possible, he said.

Former Sarpanch of Nighitwadi, Sangeeta Nighot said, “There are also four leopards in the east and west side of the Manchar. The current leopard was seen in the north. This has created fear among people. Many people are scared to roam outside in the evening, and at night time. The Forest department must increase the patrolling around Manchar.”
