Pune: Elderly Woman Killed, Husband Injured in Robbery Attack At Village In Shirur Taluka

Shirur, 18th March 2024: In a harrowing incident early Monday morning, an elderly couple was assaulted during a robbery in Thombare Vasti in Arangaon (Shirur). The woman died while her husband sustained severe injuries.

The robbers decamped with gold and silver jewelry worth approximately four and a half lakh rupees.

The deceased has been identified as Phulabai Ananda Thombare (65), a resident of Thombare Vasti in Arangaon, Shirur taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra. Her husband, Ananda Savaleram Thombare (70), sustained grievous injuries in the attack and has been admitted to a private hospital in Pune for medical treatment. The couple’s son, Baba Ananda Thombare (47), lodged a complaint with the Shikrapur police station (Pune rural police), leading to the registration of a robbery case against the unidentified assailants.

According to police, the Thombare residence, situated in Thombare Vasti of Arangaon village, was targeted by the robbers while the family slept. Baba Thombare, who sensed unusual activity in his parents’ room around 3 a.m., attempted to intervene but found the door locked from the outside. Seeking assistance from a neighbor, Govind Ambu Mane, Baba managed to gain access to the room, only to discover his parents severely injured and his mother, Phulabai, deceased.

The assailants fled the scene after looting Phulabai’s jewelry, including her mangalsutra, nath, earrings, bangles etc, valued at approximately four and a half lakh rupees.

Upon receiving news of the incident, MLA Ashok Pawar visited the Thombare Vasti to offer condolences and support to the bereaved family. MLA Pawar promptly contacted District Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, urging swift action in investigating the robbery.

Police Inspector Diparatan Gaikwad of Shikrapur Police Station, arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. CCTV footage from the vicinity has been secured for analysis, and efforts to track down the perpetrators, including the deployment of a dog squad, are underway.

District Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh and Shirur Sub Divisional Police Officer Prashant Dhole also visited the site to oversee the investigation, emphasizing the urgency of apprehending the culprits.
