Pune: Elderly Woman Rescued from House Robbery Attempt in High-Rise Society Near Balewadi

Balewadi, 4th February 2025: An 82-year-old woman narrowly escaped a violent robbery attempt in her apartment at Swastik Heights Housing Society near Balewadi, thanks to the quick action of two young men who heard her cries for help. The incident occurred around 7 PM on 31st January 2025, when the victim was alone in her fourth-floor apartment.
According to police reports, a young woman, approximately 25 years old, entered the residential complex and struck up a conversation with the elderly resident. The accused accompanied the victim to her apartment via the elevator. Once inside, the assailant attacked the older woman, attempting to strangle her with a scarf and forcibly remove her mangalsutra.
During the struggle, the attacker tried to drown the victim in the toilet bowl. In a desperate attempt to save herself, the elderly woman pleaded for her life, offering her earrings and other valuables. The assailant attempted to steal jewellery worth approximately Rs 70,000. Seizing a moment of opportunity, the victim managed to reach the window and cry out for help.
Two young men from the society, hearing the distress call, rushed to the apartment and rescued the elderly woman from her attacker. Upon realizing she was caught, the young assailant began pleading not to be handed over to the police.
Residents of the society called the emergency number 112, and police arrived promptly to arrest the suspect. The timely intervention of the two young men is credited with saving the elderly woman’s life.
The case was registered at Bavdhan Police Station on 1st February at 2:07 AM, following the victim’s complaint. Police Sub-Inspector Sarang Thakare is investigating the matter further under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Anil Vibhute, in charge of Bavdhan Police Station.
